FEBRUARY MATCH
We had a great steel
match today. The weather was slightly cool, but
not uncomfortable in the sun. Although the turnout
was small, the fun was large.
Texas Steel no longer
sets up strictly STEEL CHALLENGE stages. Along
with several standard Steel Challenge stages, our club
usually sets up about two special stages, just for the
fun and challenge. Today, they both proved to be the
best stages of the match, and everyone enjoyed them.
If you would like to
comment on the match, or make suggestions, please send
them by email to
bulverde@gvtc.com.
The results of the match
will be posted this evening...just click on the
"Results" tab in the left column on this page.

Club Information and Rules
The Texas Steel club was formed to
introduce and allow handgun action shooters to compete in
the Speed Steel shooting discipline as defined by the Steel
Challenge National Tournament. In this handgun discipline
shooters engage a variety of arrays of different shaped and
varied distance steel plates. Each particular stage has its
own challenges but the object is to hit every plate in the
fastest time possible. A competitor's score is based solely
on time used (least amount wins). Texas Steel matches are
held the 2nd Saturday of each month. The match consists of
5 stages with 5 runs per stage by each competitor. Best 3
runs are scored and averaged. NOTE: Lately, more
non-standard stages are being introduced with varying number
of runs, and higher round counts (count on total round
counts of 150+) Competitor divisions (based
on firearm and caliber) are: Open, Limited, Production,
Revolver, IDPA and .22 cal. USPSA rules govern. All
competitors must sign a liability release form at
registration. Junior shooters are welcome but must be
accompanied by an adult who assumes all liability
responsibilities. New attendees will be given safety
orientation and advised on format. Once each year a
special match is held, the TEXAS STEEL CHAMPIONSHIPS, with
the winner being proclaimed the "King of Steel".
Ammunition
Low power 'Minor' ammunition is mandatory, preferably around
125-135 power factor.
Power factor = bullet weight (in grains) X bullet velocity
(in feet per second) / 1,000.
Ammunition that is damaging to the steel
will not be allowed. In a nutshell, NO HIGH POWER AMMO!.
22 Only Caliber Match
The main difference is this match only
allows .22 caliber pistols and the Match Fee is only
$15...Ladies/Kids only $10. The
new handgun competition format, patterned after "Steel
Challenge" is designed not only for experienced
competitors but also geared to all new / entry level
shooters wishing to give competition a try. This will
provide competitors with the opportunity to dust off and
shoot their old ,22's as well as encourage new shooters
to give the competitive experience a try without
incurring the cost of pricey ammo and firearms. |
