Case Prep: I was
reading on
Brian Enos Forum and found a great deal on corn cob for
tumblers. I have been paying up to $17 plus shipping for small
containers of tumbling media for years. However, there is a
place that actually sells corn cob media for $23.11 for 40
pounds....and delivery is FREE. I paid an extra $1.99 and it was
delivered within two days. They have 20 grit and 40 grit. I
ordered the 40 grit which is finer. The corn cob grit cleans the
brass to a like new finish, especially if you add a polisher
such as FLITZ to it. The company is named
drillspot.com. Click on the link below and save yourself
some money. The media will arrive in a box with a 40 lb sack of
media enclosed. Check it out on
Brian Enos Forum if you want more information.

Brass Retriever: Tired
of bending over to pick up your spent brass...are your knees
finally starting to give out? Many of you have asked where to
get the brass retrievers used by some of the shooters. While
they are available from many online sites, and sometimes at the
major matches, you can order one from
UniqueTek.com. And, now the brass pickup tool is available
with an adjustable handle. Check it out...

| Marking Brass: I always get questions
about how I mark my brass. I used to use colored
markers on the head. However, I found I still had to pick all brass
to see if it had my mark or not...not much savings on the back
using that method. So, I started searching for a
paint that would not add build up on the brass. I, and a few
others, discovered "metal
markup dye". It doesn't
add build-up, is easy to apply, cheap and makes brass easily
identifiable for retrieval.
However, there is one problem with this method
of marking. If everyone marks their brass the same way, how do
you determine which brass is yours? Well, the answer is
simple but requires a little cooperation. You must retrieve
your brass immediately following your shoot, prior to the next shooter, so it doesn't get mixed up
with their similarly marked brass.
Fortunately, the colored dye allows for fast retrieval of your
brass as you don't have to examine every piece individually.
Everybody has their own way of marking their brass, but I will show you the method I use. Now...I was begged to keep
everything secret so as to not have everybody marking their
brass the same way, I would like to share. Feel free to dye your
brass anyway you wish, but PLEASE demonstrate your courtesy and
cooperation by retrieving all your brass before
the next shooter when possible.
Click here for pictured instructions. Any suggestions for
improvement are welcome.

| 38 Super FACTORY ammo and Primers:
There have been many questions about shooting 38 super and the
difference between pistol and rifle primers. There is an
interesting article regarding 38 Super ammo, primers,
pressures/velocities and bulging of the brass near the head.
Take a look at
http://38super.net/Pages/Factory2.html for some opinions,
tests and explanations. |
